Characteristics: White, malleable, ductile metal. Oxidizes rapidly in air. Corrodes in moist air, soluble in acids, decomposes in water to lanthanum hydroxide and hydrogen. Hazards: Ignites spontaneously in powdered form. May delay blood clotting and cause liver injury.
