V.   HEALTH HAZARD INFORMATION

Effects of Exposure:

To the best of our knowledge the chemical, physical and toxicological properties of lithium orthophosphate tertiary have not been thoroughly investigated and recorded.  Based on data for trisodium phosphate, a similar compound, this product is expected to be extremely irritating to the eyes and minimally irritating to the skin.  It may also be irritating to the upper respiratory tract when inhaled or gastrointestinal tract when ingested.

Acute Effects:  May be extremely irritating to eyes, nose, throat and mucous membranes.

Chronic Effects:  No data available for the product.

CarcinogenicityNTP:  Not listed   IARC:  Not listed OSHA:  Not listed

EMERGENCY AND FIRST AID PROCEDURES:

INHALATION:  Remove to fresh air.  If breathing difficulty or discomfort occurs and persists, obtain medical attention.

INGESTION:  Rinse mouth with water.  Dilute by giving 1 or 2 glasses of water.  Do not induce vomiting.  Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person.  See a medical doctor immediately.

SKIN:  Wash with plenty of soap and water.  Get medical attention if irritation occurs and persists.

EYE:  Flush with water for at least 15 minutes.  If irritation occurs and persists, obtain medical attention.

Note to Physician:  Effects of oral exposure to lithium are well documented in the medical literature.  Low toxicity is anticipated.  In such cases, standard protocols for overdosage are suggested.  Treatment is otherwise symptomatic and supportive.

VII.   SPILL OR LEAK PROCEDURES

Steps to be Taken in Case Material is Released or Spilled:  Sweep up and place in suitable container.  Before cleanup measures begin, review the entire MSDS with particular attention to Section VIII, Special Protection Information.

Waste Disposal Method:  Dispose of in accordance with Local, State and Federal Waste Disposal Regulations.

VIII.   SPECIAL PROTECTION INFORMATION

Respiratory Protection:  When engineering controls are not adequate, wear a NIOSH/MSHA respirator approved for protection against inorganic dusts.

Ventilation:  Use local exhaust ventilation to keep airborne concentrations below exposure limits.

Gloves:  Rubber gloves.

Eyes:  Safety glasses or goggles

Clothing:  Protective gear suitable to prevent contamination.

IX.   SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS

Handling and Storage:  Avoid contact with eyes, skin or clothing.  Use with adequate ventilation.  Wear safety glasses or goggles and rubber gloves.  Wash thoroughly after handling.

Work Practices:  Implement engineering and work practice controls to reduce and maintain concentration of exposure at low levels.  Use good housekeeping and sanitation practices.  Do not use tobacco or food in work area.  Wash thoroughly before eating or smoking.  Do not blow dust off clothing or skin with compressed air.  Maintain eyewash capable of sustained flushing, safety drench shower and facilities for washing.

SARA Title III, Sec. 311:  Immediate (acute) health hazard
