V.   HEALTH HAZARD INFORMATION

Effects of Exposure:

To the best of our knowledge the chemical, physical and toxicological properties of europium bromide have not been thoroughly investigated and reported.

Lanthanons can cause delayed blood clotting leading to hemorrhages.  Exposure may also lead to sensitivity to heat, itching, increased awareness of odor and taste, and liver damage.

Inorganic bromides may produce depression, emaciation, and in severe cases, psychosis and mental deterioration.  Bromoderma, a bromide rash, often occurs when bromide inhalation or administration is prolonged.  This rash is usually found on the face and resembles acne and furunculosis.

Acute Effects:

Inhalation:  May cause irritation.

Ingestion:  May be harmful, effects not known

Skin:  May cause irritation.

Eye:  May cause irritation.

Chronic Effects:  No data

Medical Conditions, If Any, Aggravated by the Chemical:  None Known

EMERGENCY AND FIRST AID PROCEDURES:

INHALATION:  Remove victim to fresh air, keep warm and quiet, give oxygen if breathing is difficult.  Seek medical attention immediately.

INGESTION:  No data.  Seek medical attention immediately.

SKIN:  Remove contaminated clothing, wash with mild soap and water.  If irritation persists seek medical attention.

EYE:  Flush with water for at least 15 minutes raising upper and lower eyelids.  Seek medical attention.

VII.   SPILL OR LEAK PROCEDURES

Steps to Be Taken in Case Material Is Released or Spilled:  Wear appropriate respiratory and protective equipment specified in section VIII.  Isolate spill area and provide ventilation.  Scoop up or Vacuum up spill using a high efficiency particulate absolute (HEPA) air filter and place in a closed container for proper disposal.  Take care not to raise dust.

Waste Disposal Method:  In accordance with Local, State and Federal EPA regulations.

Other Protective Equipment:  Protective gear suitable to prevent contamination.

IX.   SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS

Precautions to Be Taken in Handling and Storage:  Keep container tightly closed.  Store in cool, dry conditions in well sealed containers.  Store and handle under dry inert gas.  This product is hygroscopic.  Protect from humidity and water.  Wash thoroughly after use.

Work Practices:  Implement engineering and work practice controls to reduce and maintain concentration of exposure.  Handle in a controlled, inert atmosphere.  Minimize exposure by using local exhaust and an enclosing process if/when possible.  Use good housekeeping and sanitation practices.  Do not use tobacco or food in work area.  Wash thoroughly before eating or smoking.  Do not blow dust off clothing or skin with compressed air.  Maintain eyewash capable of sustained flushing, safety drench shower and hygienic facilities for washing.
